Faith Story

by Angie

I have been attending Zion Lutheran Church for as long as I can remember. I was about three when we moved from Toledo to Petersburg. I grew up attending Zion, as did my husband.

The congregation of Zion has witnessed both the joys and the hardships of our lives and has always been a source of comfort, guidance and strength to us. We are now bringing our own children up within the walls of Zion.

Zion has many families with young children, and it is exciting watching each child grow and learn about God’s grace. The children look forward to attending church and Sunday school, and feel like they are a part of a larger family. We truly feel like we are a part of a larger, loving Christian family.

Youth

We love and value our youth, so we encourage them to learn and grow spiritually by providing them with experiences and resources to equip them for their life journey as Christians.

Luther League

At Zion Lutheran we minister to youth and instill within them a love for Jesus Christ and a love for those around them. As part of our youth ministry, we have an active Luther League program for high school-aged youth that meets one Sunday night a month during the school year. Under adult guidance, the members elect officers and plan all the activities for the entire year.

The goal of the Luther League program is to provide a safe, healthy atmosphere where youth can grow in their Christian faith through Bible study, service, and fellowship with each other. This is accomplished with a variety of activities that include bowling, zoo trips, pizza parties, lock ins, and service projects. The service projects include such activities as conducting sunrise service on Easter, nursing home visitation, donation drives for the needy, and various community projects. The group also sends representatives to youth conventions and leadership training camps, and participates in summer youth camps.
