Faith Story

by Gail

About ten years ago, Bill and I were looking for a new church family.

We decided to visit a small Lutheran church down the road from where we had recently moved, We were pleased with what we found that Sunday in the service and the people we met at Zion. We decided to become members.

We have joined committees, assisted with the services, helped out with meals and numerous other things. Bill and I are thankful that Zion is part of our faith journey.

Becoming a member

To become a Lutheran, only Baptism and instruction in the Christian faith is required. If you are already baptized in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, it will be necessary only to attend a membership class in a Lutheran congregation and thus signify your desire to become a part of its community. Active members of other Lutheran congregations usually need only to transfer their membership.

The new member class is designed to teach nonmembers how Lutheran theology and tradition are rooted in an understanding and an experience of the grace of God. Our grace-centered ways of thinking and talking about God and our traditional Lutheran ways of responding to God’s Word are gifts that we share with all Christians.
